ABOUT

I am an illustrator, writer, and fiber artist based in Portland, Oregon, exploring the interplay between ecology, identity, and social construct. My research-based practice incorporates genre conventions including science fiction, magical realism, slapstick cartoon and film noir as frameworks with which to study social theory and history. I am interested in the influence of place and situational context on historical events and people; my work is rooted in the northwestern United States, and I am heavily influenced by the ecologies and historical personalities that grew up amid the same streets, beaches and forests that I did, even if at vastly different points in time. Positioning ecological systems as a counterpoint to human constructs, I frequently look to bugs, plants, and wildlife in illustrating my ideas on the immobilizing futility and violence of Western norms.
